Dr. Calvo took the position of chief scientific officer for Cancer Core Europe at Gustave Roussy Cancer Campus Grand Paris in December 2014. Cancer Core Europe is a consortium of seven comprehensive cancer centres including Cambridge Cancer Center, the German Cancer Research Centre and the National Centre for Tumour Diseases in Heidelberg, the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology in Barcelona, The Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Gustave Roussy Cancer Campus Grand Paris, the National Cancer Institute in Amsterdam and the Instituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milano.
His role as chief scientific officer is to organize and coordinate medical research and scientific activities and help develop and implement a global vision for this new European network.
Dr. Calvo is also a professor of clinical pharmacology at the Universite Paris Diderot Medical School and was previously head of the clinical research department at Saint-Louis Hospital in Paris.
From April 2007 to September 2014, Dr. Calvo was deputy director general of the National Cancer Institute of France, in charge of research and innovation programs. He also launched, with the USA, Canada, UK and Germany, the International Cancer Genome Consortium in 2008 and the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health in 2010.
